Royal Mail Rate Change 2008

Royal Mail and Parcelforce have recently announced a change to their Inland and International Tariffs which came into effect on 7 April, 2008.  Whilst this will increase postage rates, postage meter customers can still benefit from discounted rates, including an unprecedented 3p discount off second class.

WHAT ARE THE MAIN POSTAGE RATE CHANGES FOR FRANKING…..?
…..Royal Mail?
Meter rates for letters have increased to 34p for First class and 24p for Second class.  This provides a franking discount of 2p for First class letter and 3p for Second class letter.  If you would like more details about specific Royal Mail rate changes, please click here.

HOW DOES THIS CHANGE EFFECT MY POSTAL EQUIPMENT…..?
To ensure your postal scale functions correctly with the latest rates you need an updated rate chip.   This rate chip will automatically calculate the new postage rates once installed in your scale

DO I NEED TO ORDER A CHIP…..?
Rate chips are supplied free of charge to our warranty scale customers, fully comprehensive scale contract customers and PLUS rental contracts (FOC as part of our fully comprehensive maintenance contracts). 

If your scale is non contractual, you should have already received an order form.  If you have  placed your order, your chip will be despatched by 31 March.  If you have not yet placed an order please click here to request an order form. 
 
HOW DO I FIT THE UPDATED RATE CHIP…..?
The rate chip can be easily self installed and step by step instructions are included with your chip.  To download these instructions or for product specific FAQ's, please click here. Please ensure you do not install the chip until MONDAY 7 APRIL, 2008 when the rate changes come into effect. 

I HAVE NOT RECEIVED MY NEW RATE CHIP…..?
As of 31 March, all rate chips will have been despatched to our warranty scale customers, fully comprehensive scale contract customers, PLUS rental contracts and to all our non contractual scale customers who have placed an order.   All customers should therefore have received their chip in time for 7 April.
